Social media can be a great way to get more speaking engagements. It can take time, but the investment will be well worth it. Through refining and optimizing your social media profiles, as well as the daily engagement and growing your network, you will be able to increase the number of speaking engagements you get.

LinkedIn is a great place to network with your connections, but it is also a great place to find event organizers. These are the direct contacts you want to connect with, to start the process of finding speaking engagements. The first step in this process is to optimize your profile so that it reflects that you are an expert in your field. Look at the title in your profile, as well as your summary and company description.  These should reflect your expertise in your field. If you are at a loss of what to use for keywords, then consider what event organizers would be looking for. In other words, what words would they use to search when looking for a speaker. This can apply to LinkedIn, Twitter or any other social network. Keep in mind that those keywords should include speaker, keynote speaker or any variation on this. These keywords are picked up by Google and can help with your search engine optimization.

In the job experience section of your LinkedIn profile, you will want to add a section just for your speaker expertise.  You want to spend a good amount of time on this part. This part should be inspiring, illicit action on the event managers part and showcase what makes you unique. Think of this as your unique selling proposition. This states what makes you the best choice for their event. Part of demonstrating this experience is showcasing your abilities. One of the best ways to do this is speaking videos that show you in action. It’s great to have visual examples of your speaking and it will entice event managers to hire you.

Another component of demonstrating your experience, is what you post. This includes your social media posts, your blogs on LinkedIn Publisher, and your interactions with connections online. This showcases your expertise on topics that you would be speaking on. When you interact with connections online, you can answer questions about topic areas and create valuable connections.

If you have done speaking engagements before, then have the event organizer recommend you or write a testimonial that you can display on your website and your social media.
